Substance Use & Addiction

Treating mild to moderate difficulties with substance use and addiction requires a compassionate, individualized approach that respects each person's unique journey toward recovery. Substance use issues often stem from an attempt to manage stress, emotional pain, or other underlying challenges. Recognizing this, it’s crucial to approach treatment with empathy and understanding. Motivational interviewing plays a pivotal role in this process by creating a non-judgmental space where individuals can explore their ambivalence towards substance use and find internal motivation to change. This technique respects the client's autonomy and helps them to identify personal reasons for pursuing a healthier lifestyle, whether that involves abstinence or harm reduction.

My therapy services offer a supportive and flexible approach to addressing substance use issues, tailored to fit each client’s needs and goals. I work collaboratively with clients to enhance their motivation for change and support them in developing a clear, achievable plan for recovery. This can include strategies for abstinence-based recovery for those who wish to completely abstain from substance use, as well as harm reduction techniques for individuals aiming to reduce the negative consequences associated with their use. The focus is on empowering clients to make informed decisions that align with their values and life goals, promoting a sense of autonomy and control over their recovery journey. My approach is designed to foster hope, resilience, and a commitment to personal growth and well-being.
